Klias River is located at Klias Peninsula, Beaufort, which takes about 2 hours journey from Kota Kinabalu City. Being a Mangrove Forest Reserve, this place is considered one of the best one-stop eco-destination of Sabah. The geographical remoteness of this area is a natural safe haven for Proboscis Monkey, the only species of primates that can be found in Borneo only. These monkeys a.k.a 'The Borneon Dutchman'or 'Monyet Belanda' in Malay has reddish-brown fur, hugh belly and long nose. One may also caught sight of other species such as the Silver Leaf Langur and Long-Tailed Macaque whilst cruising along the mangrove.
If you are at the right time and lucky enough, you can see some Monitor Lizard hanging on the coconut tree nearby the riverbank and flying foxes glide from one tree to another. The boatman can bring you to the best spot to view the beauty of sunset at dusk and whilst returning back to exit point, you will be amazed at several spectacular glowing view of fireflies, surrounding several trees depicting in shapes of bowls and large Christmas Tree.
